Mosaic and Stained Glass Restoration

HISTORY
The history of stained glass spans over 1000 years, encompassing the most varied styles and designs, from representational to abstract works, depicting sacred and secular
themes.
Growing out of such a rich tradition, Red Fern Studio sees being dedicated to the conservation and restoration of mosaics, lamps and historical works of stained glass art,
as a part of its mission and responsibility.
PROCESS
After decades in the lifespan of a stained glass window, the soft lead holding the pieces of glass together begins to stretch and ultimately to break and crumble apart.
Often the window will buckle & bulge, cracking some of the glass. Before this occurrs the window should undergo extensive restorations. In this process, a stained glass
window is taken apart & the glass is cleaned piece by piece.
Broken glass is replaced or repaired, then the window is reassembled using new lead. If the damage is less pervasive, individual pieces of cracked glass can be
removed and replaced & the window cleaned and re-puttied on site, without taking it apart completely.
